| | Originally, I was supposed to be done with this yesterday or the day before but ack. Oh well, I still would like this to be complete.
So back on track. Between 2001 and 2002, a buyout took place and Disney bought the rights to the Power Rangers franchise from Saban. This also is the reason why Fox Famliy became ABC Family. The buyout of course included Power Rangers' production along with others. After Saban now became BVS Entertainment, production was changed over to New Zealand after Wild Force ended. And as we all know after that, Fox Kids was no more. *sigh* The worse part is that Saban still kept the rights to the music from the past seasons. Why Disney couldn't do a thing about it I dunno.
Power Rangers Wild Force (Season 10)
This was a very iffy season. It was mostly about the Zords, and there were helluva lot of Zords in this one. Too much. Oh, and the Red guy was practically brain-dead. The only great thing about this season really was Taylor, the Yellow Eagle, the Time Force team-up, and the 10th anniversary episode "Forever Red" where the past rangers (minus Rocky) showed up to take down an old enemy empire from Zeo.
Power Rangers Ninja Storm (Season 11)
The first season to have footage in NZ. Now the feel was dramatically different but it didn't stray away completely from the usual theme. I thought this one was pretty neat. The team does a lot of sports, they have ninja techniques, and the suits looked great. The only thing I hated was the comedy, the rangers' sensei, who was a hamster, and the villain, the sensei's brother, who was a Luchador. Seriously, WTF? Oh yeah, starting from this season, it seems that now each ranger has a special ability outside being a ranger.
Power Rangers DinoThunder (Season 12)
Now a lot may not have liked this one, but I thought it was a great one. One of the reasons being that Tommy returned in this one for the season. He played the Black Dino Ranger. So he's went through green, white, red, and black. Haha. Oh yeah, and the theme was dinosaurs. Sound familiar? This season introduced one of the baddest guys ever. An evil white ranger originally called the AbareKiller. Even his costume looks evil. Two of the greatest episodes was "Legacy of Power" the 500th episode of Power Rangers. It detailed the history of the Power Rangers from the beginning til now. The second was "Fighting Spirit" where Tommy was in a coma and had to fight for his life. In his coma, he fought against his past ranger selves which was really neat to see.
Power Rangers S.P.D. (Season 13)
IMO, another great one even though I never watched it all. It was fairly close to the original. This season had the most rangers ever as well. More than six, maybe there were ten? Anyways, it was like a mix between Lightspeed and Time Force. Like Time Force they were like guardians of the peace (aka police force) but the setting took place in 2025. The style was really great and the characters all had their moment to shine. Also, these are probably my favorite suits, especially in S.W.A.T. mode, where they have... well those SWAT suits. The red guy has the most pimpest pose ever too haha. Oh yes, and the commander was a dog, but he was a pretty awesome guy.
Power Rangers Mystic Force (Season 14)
Now I didn't watch a whole lot and at first I thought it was really strange, but I liked the design of the costumes for most of them. Would you believe it? The rangers had magical powers now. It was like something out of LotR or something. And they also wore capes too. This season there were also more than six... kinda.
Power Rangers Operation Overdrive (Season 15)
The current season airing. The design here was very original. A shade of white and the respective color. The rangers were a team of let's say hunters or adventurers and were on a mission to collect these five stones. Some say this isn't a such a great season but I haven't had time to watch it all. I just know the theme song uses rap music. Er.. yeah. Now this is where it gets interesting. It's the 15th anniversary of Power Rangers. Just yesterday premiered the 15 anniversary episode. A two parter called "Once A Ranger" where the song of Rita and Lord Zedd named Thrax seeks revenge on the rangers and gathers the Overdrive team's baddest villains. There were seriously a whole bunch of them and it worked too. The team was getting beat badly... that is until five mysterious rangers show up. The original Black Ranger, the Blue Wind Ranger, the Yellow Dino Ranger, Red S.P.D. Ranger, and the Green Mystic Ranger. All past rangers starting from the new production. The exception is of course Adam. It was great to see the Black Ranger in action again. A new morphing sequence for Adam as well. Woot! Though I gotta say, there were too too many explosions to count. And the ending felt mildly rush too. Though overall it was great to see them all again.
So what's next for PR? Well, you know the next season will be about cats? *crickets* Yeah, that's right, Jungle Fury. The art of beast martial arts that involve felines. I saw the first episode of it in Japanese (Gekiranger) and well, the red guy is annoying as hell, the suits are fugly, and ... their mentor is a cat. What else, ah yes, there are confirmed 15th anniversary games coming for the DS and PS2. I can't wait to see how that will turn out. From the DS screens, looks like you can choose a ranger from the whole history of rangers.
Well that's all. Hopefully someone actually read all that or at least knows what I'm talking about. My fingers are starting to cramp. Later all.
